About this course
A comprehensive review of Islamic pedagogy and education, including its concept, virtue, philosophy, tools, institutions, and scholars. It also highlights how excellence can be achieved in Islamic education, analyzing a number of challenges facing Islamic education, including education of Muslim children in the West, Islamization of the curriculum, and co-education. The course also covers various aspects of public speaking as a tool of teaching and conveying knowledge to others and for religious and dawah-oriented purposes. (3 credits)
About the Instructor(s)
Dr Attia Abdul-Aal is a leading scholar and educator in the field of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), with over 30 years of experience in higher education, curriculum development, and educational reform. He earned his PhD in English Language Teaching from the University of Warwick, UK. He also holds an MPhil in Teacher Education from Warwick and an MA in Curriculum & Instruction from Al-Azhar University.
Currently serving as Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Community Service at Al-Azhar University, Prof. Attia has played a pivotal role in shaping national education policy and has significantly influenced curriculum design, teacher training, and quality assurance. He has served as the Director of the Training Department at Egypt’s National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education (NAQAAE), and the Deputy Director of the Al-Azhar Quality Assurance and Training Centre (AQATC). Prof. Attia is a certified Trainer of Trainers by Dale Carnegie, NAQAAE, ANQAHEE, and Skill Converged.
His immense contributions include:
- Teaching an extensive number of courses in English, Phonology and Translation
- Authoring and editing numerous academic publications, textbooks and children’s fiction
- Supervising and examining a wide range of MA and PhD theses
- Leading national committees for developing Egypt’s National Academic Reference Standards (NARS)
- Designing and delivering professional development programs for educators across Egypt and the Arab region
Prof. Attia is also an active member of several academic and professional organizations, including TESOL and the Language Assessment and Testing Group at Warwick University. (Learn More)
